This morning my group had our first clinical of our 2nd semester of nursing school. In our first semester we did little more than take vital signs and move patients (boring!), and this semester is looking like it'll be a lot different. The facility we're in is HUGE! I could get lost just looking at it. It just opened in October '07, and cost over $600 million (not cheap) to build. Anyway, this semester we get to work in many units, including trauma, OR, transplant, cardiac, oncology, and telemetry. I'm particularly excited about surgery, and I get to be one of the first students on that rotation.
Today we mostly toured and went over assignments, but near the end of the shift we shadowed nurses. I mostly just followed mine around while she gave meds, but later I was lucky enough to get to pull out a central line. It was awesome! FYI, a central line is a catheter that's inserted into a large vein leading to the heart. So yeah, that was fun (and bloody), and way exciting to do so early in.
We're definitely tired at the end of the day (after getting up at 5am ), but I think it's gonna be worth it!

So I see you deleted myspace. I need to conjur up the cajones to do so myself. Blogging is much more fun, eh? So Mom is pretty pissed at you for even suggesting that you might not come home. Good luck with that!
